What is a Lash Lift?
Big Hair, the mullet, Jheri curls and especially “The Perm” come to mind when performing a Lash Lift Service. Why, you ask? The beauty industry calls it a lash perm aka Lash Lift for a reason. The product actually smells like a perm and if you remember the 80’s or were born in the 80’s that smell brings you back to jean jackets, leather pants and Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’. I LOVE it!!
Besides the great smell, a Lash Lift is a service that will give your natural lashes a lift, separation and extra definition. Just think of it as a push up bra for your lashes.
What is the service like?
Depending on product brand, and if a Lash Tint is added, the process takes about 30-45 minutes to complete from start to finish. The Technician will start by placing eye pads under the eyes to prevent the lower lashes to be permed upward. A rubber rod is then positioned on the closed eyelids. The lashes stick to the rod and a curl is created. The perming solution is left on for 5-12 minutes and creates the lasting curl for 6-8 weeks, sometimes 12 weeks. A setting solution or neutralizer and conditioner are also used during the service. When the Neutralizer is taken off the lashes are ready to be tinted if it is desired. In most cases, from my experience, people get the tint too. It’s what makes it seem like mascara is on.
Eyelash Extensions or a Lash Lift?
There is low maintenance to a Lash Lift. Following the service, it is recommended to not get the lashes wet for 24 hours and sleep on your back. Lashes could still be setting so avoiding water and smashed face in the pillow is highly encouraged for great results.
Unlike eyelash extension, you can rub your eyes, wear mascara, and is more feasible. However, eyelash extensions will always give a more dramatic look than a lift because extensions add volume, height and curl. I have had both services done and must say I prefer a lash lift over eyelash extensions. Keep in mind, I am a mom of 2 boys and own my own business though. I don’t have time for a fill for eyelash extensions every 2 weeks.
Lash Growth Serums
An added bonus to a lash lift is using a lash growth serum. By using a growth serum your lashes will grow longer and fuller. Just know, it does take 2-3 months for your eyelashes to grow to its full potential. Be patient! A growth serum uses vitamins and proteins to help the lashes grow. I personally like to use babe lash. It is by far the best results I’ve seen and experienced.
Any Risks?
Of course, the service isn’t without its risks. Lash Lifting is not FDA approved and some brands are safer than others. With that said, make sure a PROFESSIONAL is conducting the service. Do NOT purchase or use an at home kit. It is not safe. I tried to do this service on myself and even I struggled. Just imagine trying to keep one eye closed while precisely placing a perm solution on your lashes with a rod on it. I made a mess on one eyeball. Again, go to a professional.
Which professional is Right for me?
If you have heard of any bad reviews of a lash lift its more than likely due to the professional over processing or bad product use. Unfortunately, even some professionals don’t follow protocols or do in-depth training. Ask questions and know a little bit about your professional before getting the service.
Overall
Overall, Lash Lifts are advertised as safe. I personally have not had any issues performing the service on others. Lash Lifts are one of my favorite services to receive and to perform. It is one of the hottest services in the eyelash industry and offers a low maintenance option as opposed to eyelash extensions. I use the best Lash Lift Solution on the market and I pride myself on my education and experience. Your professional should too.
